Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator specializing in MEP and process piping to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects. The Estimator will support business development and project teams by performing material and labor takeoffs, soliciting subcontractor and vendor quotes, analyzing costs and risks, and producing bid documents that reflect scope, schedule, and constructability. This role requires strong technical knowledge of piping systems, MEP trades, and construction estimating practices to help secure profitable work and support successful project delivery.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for MEP and process piping systems, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.

Develop complete bid packages, including cost summaries, breakdowns, assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications for proposals and RFIs.

Solicit, evaluate, and reconcile subcontractor and vendor quotations; build and maintain a reliable vendor/subcontractor database.

Coordinate with engineering, project management, and construction teams to clarify scope, review drawings (P&IDs, isometrics, mechanical plans), and incorporate constructability and schedule impacts into estimates.

Perform pricing analysis, unit cost development, and risk assessments to ensure margins and identify value engineering opportunities.

Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost records, and takeoff templates; ensure consistent use of estimating tools and methods.

Support pre-bid site visits and scope verification; document site conditions that affect pricing and schedule.

Prepare change order/variation cost analyses and support negotiation of contract modifications during bidding and construction phases.

Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes, standards, and owner/contractor requirements and support submittal and clarification requests during procurement.

Participate in bid reviews, lessons learned sessions, and continuous improvement of estimating processes and templates.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of estimating experience focused on MEP and process piping systems; industrial or process plant experience strongly preferred.

Proficiency in on-screen takeoff and estimating software (for example Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Trimble/WinEst, Sage or similar) and advanced Excel skills.

Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, mechanical and piping specifications, and general construction documents.

Strong knowledge of piping materials, fittings, valves, supports, insulation, and MEP systems as well as relevant codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, local plumbing/mechanical codes).Proven track record preparing competitive, accurate bids under tight deadlines with strong attention to detail and cost control.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, project managers, vendors, and clients.

Willingness to perform occasional site visits and travel as needed; valid drivers license.
