Estimator Reports To:
Estimating Coordinator and VP of Field Operations Position Summary The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role analyzes plans, specifications, labor requirements, equipment needs, subcontractor pricing, and material costs to develop detailed project bids and budgets. The Estimator works closely with project managers, field personnel, vendors, and clients to ensure project costs are accurately forecasted and profitable. Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, and other construction activities.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Calculate labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities affecting costs and schedules.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
  • Maintain current pricing databases for labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with project managers and operations teams during bid development.
  • Assist with project handoff after contract award.
  • Track bid results and analyze estimate accuracy.
  • Support value engineering efforts to improve project profitability.
  • Ensure estimates comply with company standards and client requirements. Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of estimating experience in construction, sitework, civil, utility, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (HeavyBid, HCSS, Agtek, Bluebeam, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Preferred Skills
  • Experience estimating site development, grading, underground utilities, storm drainage, paving, or heavy civil projects.
  • Knowledge of local market conditions and subcontractor networks.
  • Understanding of contract documents and project scheduling.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Pay:
From $55,000.00 per year
