Scull Construction Estimator Job Description Job Summary:
At Scull Construction, an Estimator is responsible for leading and delivering accurate, competitive project estimates and bids across a range of commercial construction project types. This position reports to the Director of Preconstruction and works closely with the preconstruction and project management teams throughout the bid and award process. The successful candidate will develop their skills alongside an experienced team engaged in some of the most challenging and rewarding projects in the northern plains region. Job Type:

Perform detailed quantity takeoffs across all major trade divisions, including foundation and site concrete, masonry, structural steel, rough carpentry, building envelope, interior finishes, and specialties. Review all project documents — drawings, specifications, and addenda — for completeness, accuracy, and constructability. Develop bid scopes for trade packages and solicit, evaluate, and vet subcontractor and supplier quotes for compliance with scope requirements. Conduct conceptual and schematic-level estimates from high-level plans or program documents. Identify value engineering opportunities and constructability improvements during the estimating process. Produce estimate reports and bid summaries for internal team review and owner presentation. Create and manage estimates in the company's estimating software with accuracy and efficiency. Confirm that estimates — including general conditions — reflect actual project schedule, staffing, and resource requirements. Maintain and develop relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to support ongoing bid coverage and market intelligence. Participate in bid strategy meetings and contribute to risk identification and contingency planning. Support the transition from preconstruction to construction by contributing to turnover documentation as needed. Position Expectations:

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Three or more years of commercial construction estimating experience preferred; strong candidates with relevant experience and demonstrated aptitude will be considered. Demonstrated experience with the full bid process, including soliciting and leveling subcontractor quotes, managing bid tally sheets, and communicating with bidders. Working knowledge of commercial construction methods including wood framing, structural steel, concrete, and pre-engineered metal building systems. Ability to conduct conceptual estimates from schematic or high-level design documents. Capable of reading and independently navigating a complete set of construction documents and specifications. Experience identifying value engineering alternatives and project betterments. Ability to negotiate professionally with subcontractors and evaluate proposals for scope completeness and compliance.
