Job Description

Job Title:
Estimator Job Description The Estimator reviews construction floor plans and specifications to prepare accurate material bids for contractors. This role enters project information into internal systems to generate detailed quotes, and once bids are awarded, coordinates the flow of materials by preparing purchase orders and packing slips. The Estimator works closely with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure each project runs smoothly, while adapting to a high volume of custom and changing work. This position offers a clear growth path into project management and future divisional leadership. Responsibilities Review floor plans, construction drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements and project scope. Prepare accurate material bids and cost estimates for contractors using internal computer systems. Enter detailed project information into the computer to generate professional and timely quotes. Create and process purchase orders once bids are awarded to ensure timely procurement of materials. Prepare packing slips and documentation to direct the movement and delivery of materials to job sites. Coordinate closely with suppliers to confirm product availability, pricing, and delivery schedules. Collaborate with customers to clarify project requirements, answer questions, and provide excellent service throughout the bidding and fulfillment process. Monitor active bids and awarded projects to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies related to quantities, pricing, or specifications. Handle multiple custom projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and adjusting to changing project demands. Maintain accurate records of bids, purchase orders, and material movements for tracking and reporting purposes. Use math skills to verify quantities, measurements, and pricing to ensure precise estimates and orders. Demonstrate strong attention to detail in reviewing documents, entering data, and preparing all project-related paperwork. Work collaboratively with team members within the department to support overall project and division success. Develop a strong understanding of the company's products and construction applications to improve estimating accuracy. Prepare to transition into a project management role within approximately one year, taking on increased responsibility for project oversight. Contribute to the long-term goal of managing the division within approximately five years by developing leadership skills and process knowledge. Essential Skills Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and floor plans. Previous construction knowledge or experience in a construction-related environment. At least 6 months of prior experience interacting directly with customers. Strong attention to detail when reviewing specifications, entering data, and preparing documentation. Proficiency with computers and comfort using software to create bids, quotes, and purchase orders. Ability to handle extensive multi-tasking and manage multiple custom projects simultaneously. Strong math skills to calculate quantities, measurements, and pricing accurately. Effective communication skills for working with customers, vendors, and internal teams. Customer service skills with a focus on professionalism and responsiveness. Comfort working in a dynamic environment where project types and requirements frequently change. Motivation and aptitude to grow into a leadership and project management role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience preparing bids or estimates in a construction or building products setting. Familiarity with product ordering processes and working with suppliers. Experience creating and managing purchase orders and packing slips. Background in construction, building materials, or related trades. The estimating department consists of about 8 team members, allowing for regular interaction and support among colleagues. Standard work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing a consistent daytime schedule. The environment involves office-based work using computers and software tools to review blueprints, prepare bids, and manage purchase orders, while coordinating frequently with customers and suppliers. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
