About Us:
Tennessee Valley Specialties Inc. (TVS) is a specialized subcontractor focusing on final-phase installations in the after-paint construction trade. Our expertise covers four primary divisions: After-Paint/Final Hardware, Glass & Glazing, Doors & Locks, Shower Doors & Mirrors, Windows & Doors, and Custom Shelving.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Estimator & Sales Representative to serve as the critical bridge between our field team and our clients, including General Contractors and homeowners. Reporting to the Lead Estimator and accountable to the Sales Managers, you will assist in developing accurate estimates from client drawings and specifications. This role blends technical estimating with active sales and customer service to ensure every project is bid accurately and sold with a focus on quality and reliability. As a junior role, the successful candidate will receive dedicated training from the Lead Estimator.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare job cost estimates, quotes, abstracts, schedules of values, and Bills of Materials from client drawings or take-off sheets. Interface regularly with clients, Project Managers, and Operations Managers regarding specifications and design questions. Confirm material specifications and options with clients and prepare layout drawings where appropriate. Develop change orders for original estimates and ensure all job requirements and scopes of work are developed in written form. Coordinate accurate client billing with the Billing Supervisor by converting monthly percentage-complete data from field management into dollars. Provide support in analyzing processes and costs to help the division operate more efficiently and reduce direct/indirect costs. Promote a positive company image through ethical business practices with employees, customers, and vendors.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
3 or more years of experience in the construction trade.
Licensing:
Valid Driver's License.
Technical Skills:
Computer skilled with Plan swift, Bluebeam, Adobe, Job Nimbus, and Microsoft Excel. Ability to use company financial and estimating software.
Core Skills:
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules in English to understand overall job costs.
Math & Sales:
Strong math skills to determine accurate material take-offs and labor estimates, alongside extensive knowledge of prospecting, sales techniques, and excellent telephone manners.
Work Ethic:
Detail-oriented, excellent listening skills, ability to manage multiple tasks/sales presentations simultaneously, and the capacity to work independently with little direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical courses related to construction, or an engineering degree relating to construction/construction management. 5 or more years of office experience with a construction contractor preparing estimates ranging from $150,000 to $5.0 million.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Primarily works indoors in a non-smoking, climate-controlled office, with occasional required visits to job sites (which may feature varying temperatures, normal auto hazards, and higher noise levels). Must be able to sit for prolonged periods and maintain a full range of body movements (bending, reaching, crouching, and using computer peripherals). Must possess command of all five senses with specific vision abilities including close vision, depth perception, and the ability to shift focus from screens to physical forms. Must have the strength to lift 25 pounds with regularity.
Compensation & Performance:
Combination of a fixed weekly salary and sales commission on collected and closed projects. Performance is measured on timely submissions, client confidentiality, peer respect, cost-reduction recommendations, and meeting specific metrics (e.g., maintaining 95% billable hours and achieving 95% accuracy on profit margins and material take-offs).
