Job Description
Estimator - Preconstruction (Commercial & Industrial Interiors)Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Estimator to support our preconstruction and bidding efforts for commercial, corporate interiors and industrial projects. The Estimator will develop accurate, competitive cost estimates and work closely with project teams, subcontractors and clients to define scope, identify cost-saving opportunities and support successful bid submissions. This role requires strong technical estimating skills, familiarity with commercial and industrial interiors, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare complete, accurate cost estimates and quantity takeoffs for commercial, corporate interiors and industrial projects based on drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
Analyze project documents, clarify scope with design teams and identify risks, assumptions and exclusions affecting cost.
Solicit, evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and vendor quotations; build and maintain a reliable subcontractor/vendor cost database.
Perform value engineering and constructability reviews to reduce costs and improve project outcomes while maintaining design intent.
Develop and assemble bid packages, cost summaries, allowance schedules and bid forms for internal review and submission.
Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers and sales teams during preconstruction to align scope, schedule and budget.
Maintain accurate historical cost data, estimating templates and pricing databases; continually update unit rates and productivity factors.
Attend pre-bid meetings, client presentations and site visits to gather information, verify conditions and support client relationships.
Support post-bid activities including clarifications, change order pricing and reconciliation of bid results with final contract values.
Qualifications3+ years (mid-level) to 5+ years (senior) estimating experience in commercial construction, corporate interiors and/or industrial projects; preconstruction experience preferred.
Proven proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, On-Screen Takeoff) and estimating platforms (e.g., Sage Estimating, Procore, Viewpoint or similar).Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and schedules; competent in quantity takeoffs and pricing of architectural, MEP and finishing trades.
Excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail and documentation.
Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to negotiate with subcontractors and present estimates to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple bid efforts concurrently, meet deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with value engineering, constructability reviews and risk identification in preconstruction.
Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience accepted.
Valid drivers license and availability for site visits; certifications such as CPE (Certified Professional Estimator) or similar are an asset.
