The Junior Estimator is part of Sevan's Construction Services and Business Development Teams. The Junior Estimator prepares cost estimates to support the development of conceptual budgets, ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) estimates, and hard bid proposals. This position requires the application of technical knowledge and independent judgment to analyze project documentation, assess trade costs, and contribute to project estimates. The Junior Estimator works collaboratively within a team environment while developing the skills and experience necessary to grow into more senior estimating roles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and other contract documents to support scope development, bid package preparation, and subcontractor procurement. Prepare and distribute Invitations to Bid (ITBs) through BuildingConnected and other bidding platforms. Draft and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project requirements and resolve scope-related questions. Assist senior estimators in identifying project risks, developing mitigation strategies, and maintaining project risk registers. Conduct site visits and document existing conditions using Sevan Capture or similar field documentation software. Research, prequalify, and maintain subcontractor and vendor bid lists to support competitive procurement efforts. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses using digital takeoff software to estimate material, labor, and equipment costs. Research regional market conditions and trade pricing to support budget development and cost planning. Solicit subcontractor participation through phone and email outreach, and actively manage trade coverage throughout the bidding process. Review, analyze, and level subcontractor proposals to ensure compliance with project requirements and scope expectations. Develop and maintain estimate worksheets and cost breakdowns. Assist in the preparation of comprehensive project proposals, including scope narratives, assumptions, qualifications, inclusions, and exclusions. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent 1-3 years of professional work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of preconstruction and estimation principles, with a willingness to learn and develop skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with project teams, clients, contractors, and vendors. Ability to prepare and deliver professional proposals under supervision. Proficient in MS Office Suite; experience with estimating and on-screen take-off software a plus. Ability to clearly articulate all scopes of work to subcontractors. Knowledge of Government projects is beneficial. Why Join Sevan? Pay & Benefits:
The anticipated compensation range for the position is $25.00 - $33.00 per hour based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a matching 401K plan.
