Job Description
Wasatch West Contracting is a commercial general contractor seeking a Junior Estimator to support our estimating and preconstruction team. This position will report directly to the Senior Estimator and assist with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and vendor solicitation, bid organization, estimate preparation, proposal review, and bid documentation. We are looking for someone with some experience in construction estimating, project coordination, project engineering, or commercial construction who wants to grow into a stronger estimator. The right person will be organized, detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with plans and specifications, and able to communicate professionally with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and internal team members. This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys construction, numbers, problem solving, and building complete estimates from plans, specifications, and subcontractor input. You do not need to know everything on day one, but you do need to be willing to learn, ask good questions, follow procedures, and take pride in accuracy. Assist the Senior Estimator with commercial construction estimates. Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents. Perform quantity takeoffs for assigned scopes of work. Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing. Track bid coverage by trade. Organize bid documents, addenda, RFIs, and proposal information. Prepare and maintain bid tabs and scope comparison sheets. Review subcontractor proposals for inclusions, exclusions, alternates, and missing scope. Help identify plan conflicts, scope gaps, and estimating risks. Assist with preparation of estimates, bid forms, proposals, alternates, and value engineering options. Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and internal team members. Maintain estimating files, subcontractor database information, and historical pricing information. Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, bid reviews, and internal estimate meetings as needed. Support the estimating department with follow-up, documentation, and other duties as assigned.
