Residential & Commercial Glass Specialist
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Residential & Commercial Glass Specialist is responsible for the installation, repair, replacement, fabrication, and servicing of residential and commercial glass products. This position requires technical skill, attention to detail, safe work practices, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service while representing Service Lab Home & Auto Glass professionally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install residential windows, insulated glass units, mirrors, tabletops, and specialty glass products.
- Install and service commercial storefront systems, door systems, and glazing components.
- Install shower enclosures and custom glass systems.
- Measure openings accurately for fabrication and installation.
- Read and interpret work orders, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Safely transport, handle, and install glass products.
- Perform repairs and replacement of damaged glass products.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and coworkers.
- Complete required documentation, work orders, and job reports.
- Follow all company safety procedures and industry best practices.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
ADDITIONAL TASKS
- Measure, cut, fit, install, repair, or replace glass on openings in building interiors or exteriors or in furniture or other products.
- Load and arrange glass or mirrors onto service trucks, using suction cups and glass dollies along with driving trucks to installation sites and unload.
- Cut and remove broken glass from openings prior to installing replacement glass.
- Measure mirrors and dimensions of areas to be covered. Secure mirrors in position, using mastic cement, putty, bolts, or screws.
- Install glass panes into wood sashes or frames _with clips, points, or vinyl beading, adding weather seals or putty around pane edges to seal joints.
- Create patterns for odd, shaped openings to enable the order of glass replacements.
- Position glass for cutting by resting it on rack edges or against cutting tables.
- Score glass with cutters' wheels, breaking off excess glass by hand or with notched tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in residential and/or commercial glazing preferred but not required.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic construction math.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move glass and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work from ladders for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and hand tools.
