$30.93/hr Overview We are seeking a Fitter Class 1 to join our growing team at a shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your knowledge and skills to a dynamic team working on a new Coast Guard vessel. Requirements/Qualifications 3 to 5 years of experience in the ship/boat building industry as a structural fitter Must be able to read blueprints Minimal welding experience—must be able to tack weld Proficient in layout and cutting of steel and aluminum using necessary tools Must possess the basic tools required to perform shipfitter duties Strong math skills with the ability to read a tape measure and other measuring devices Ability to maintain dimensional accuracy and fairness of materials to be fitted Excellent problem-solving and communication skills Ability to operate equipment safely and comply with all safety standards Demonstrates a strong work ethic Must be able to recognize fit-up issues and relay them to a supervisor Experience operating power tools (grinders, saws, drills, etc.) Consistently produces high-quality work with minimal to no discrepancies Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
