Metal Shop Technician

Wiseman Studio is a busy multi-faceted artist studio located in Frogtown. Working across bronze, ceramic, and other various mediums, the studio creates intricate site-specific installations, furniture, lighting fixtures, and objects. The studio is looking to expand its team to include a metal shop professional.

Responsibilities:

Manage metal shop, foundry, and studio and gallery maintenance and repairs: scheduling and acting as point person for maintenance workers, keeping track of regularly scheduled maintenance of facilities and tools, providing basic tech and maintenance support. Assistance with communicating payroll and scheduling of metal shop employees. Basic art handling and installation. General studio errands Assist with photoshoot days, including set-up, breakdown, etc. Organize studio space and maintain systems and workstations Order and maintain stock of materials and supplies Maintain systems for materials inventory Research and source parts and equipment Some foundry and/or metal fabrication work

Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years' work experience in a metal shop/studio environment is required Bilingual (English/Spanish), or ability to understand and speak Spanish at an occupational level required. Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with contractors, colleagues, and supervisors. Experience with basic construction, general fabrication, and related tools ideal. Specific knowledge of welding and metal fabrication a must. Bronze and foundry experience required. Organized and detail oriented with an interest in maintaining and creating systems. Must have the ability to collaborate with others effectively. Must be self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly. Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle to drive to vendors and suppliers in the area (mileage is reimbursable) Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities, capable of reprioritizing on a moment's notice Positive, good sense of humor Full time position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. Trial period of 90 days.
