Welding Full Job Description Position Overview:
As a Welder's Helper , you'll play a key support role in welding operations and daily logistics critical to marine repair, construction, and maintenance. From handling materials and prepping equipment to assisting the warehouse crew, you'll ensure smooth and safe workflows across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Preparation:
Cut, grind, and position steel and other marine-grade materials according to welder instructions.
Equipment Support:
Set up and adjust welding equipment under the direction of a certified welder.
Worksite Setup & Cleanup:
Maintain safe and organized workspaces on docks, ships, or barges; ensure ventilation and clear debris post-welding.
Tool & Equipment Maintenance:
Clean and inspect tools, cables, and gear to ensure proper function and safety compliance.
Warehouse Assistance:
Help the warehouse team with inventory handling, staging materials, receiving shipments, and keeping supplies organized.
Painting:
Perform basic painting tasks including prepping surfaces, applying primers or topcoats, and touch-ups on vessels and components.
General Labor:
Assist with a variety of physical tasks including lifting, moving materials, and supporting other trades as needed.
On-the-Job Support:
Hand off materials and tools, hold components steady, and support the welder during operations.
Safety First:
Follow all maritime safety procedures and wear proper PPE at all times in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
What We're Looking For:
Atleast 2+ years experience welding Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials in outdoor and marine environments. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following directions precisely. Team-oriented with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Basic knowledge of welding processes or terminology. Must be comfortable working around water and on vessels. Preferred but
Not Required:
TWIC card a plus (may be required for some job sites) Prior shipyard or dockside experience a plus Familiarity with maritime safety protocols
