Shop Hand (Metal Fabrication Shop) Position Overview The Shop Hand supports daily operations in a metal fabrication shop by assisting fabricators, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, handling materials, and operating equipment such as forklifts. This role is essential to keeping production efficient, safe, and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Assist welders, fabricators, and machinists with setup and basic tasks Load, unload, and move raw materials and finished products within the shop Operate a forklift to transport metal stock, components, and equipment safely Maintain shop cleanliness, including sweeping, organizing tools, and disposing of scrap materials Prepare materials for fabrication (cutting, grinding, deburring, etc.) Organize inventory and keep track of materials and supplies Assist with packaging and shipping of completed orders Follow all safety procedures and shop policies at all times Perform general labor tasks as assigned by supervisors Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools Ability to read and follow instructions and safety guidelines Strong work ethic and reliability Skills & Abilities Safe forklift operation and material handling Ability to lift and move heavy materials (50+ lbs) Attention to detail and organization Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication skills Work Environment Industrial metal fabrication shop with exposure to noise, dust, and welding fumes Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots Physical Requirements Ability to operate forklift and other shop equipment safely Comfortable working in varying temperatures typical of a shop environment
