$17/hour Job Description The Shop Helper supports daily operations in a metal fabrication facility by grinding and deburring recently welded parts, handling materials, and safely operating a sit-down forklift to move aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals between welding and fabrication areas. Responsibilities Grind recently welded parts to achieve smooth, clean finishes in preparation for further fabrication or assembly. Deburr metal parts to remove sharp edges and imperfections, ensuring parts meet quality and safety standards. Operate a sit-down forklift to move aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials to and from welding and fabrication departments. Perform general labor tasks in the shop, including assisting with material staging, part movement, and basic shop support. Support assembly and fabrication activities by organizing and supplying materials and components as needed. Handle materials safely and efficiently, following established procedures to prevent damage and ensure accurate placement. Assist with inventory-related tasks such as organizing stock, restocking materials, and maintaining orderly storage areas. Help keep the work area clean and organized by sweeping, removing scrap, and performing basic cleaning duties. Support machine operation tasks as directed, including loading and unloading parts and monitoring parts flow through the shop. Read and follow basic instructions and shop documentation, including simple blueprints or part identification where applicable. Follow all shop safety practices, including proper use of equipment and adherence to material handling and machine operation guidelines. Essential Skills Experience performing general labor tasks in an industrial or fabrication shop environment. Ability to safely operate a sit-down forklift to move materials within a shop setting. Basic skills in grinding and deburring metal parts with attention to detail and safety. Ability to handle materials such as aluminum and stainless steel safely and efficiently. Understanding of basic safety practices in a fabrication or industrial environment. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a production team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of material handling procedures is a plus. Familiarity with safety practices related to metal fabrication and machine operation is a plus. Experience in a welding or fabrication shop environment is beneficial. Exposure to basic assembly tasks in a production or industrial setting is helpful. Ability to support machine operation, including loading and unloading parts, is an asset. Basic ability to interpret or work from simple blueprints or part drawings is a plus. Comfort working around welding, fabrication, and metalworking equipment in an industrial setting. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in an industrial fabrication steel shop within a new precision metals facility. You will work around welding, grinding, and metal fabrication equipment, handling materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals. The environment is active and production-focused, with regular movement of parts and materials between welding and fabrication areas. Expect to spend most of the day on your feet, operating a sit-down forklift, performing grinding and deburring tasks, and assisting with general shop duties in a typical industrial shop setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
