Stucki Company family, Wheelworx plays a key role in keeping the rail industry rolling by reconditioning railcar wheels and axles used throughout North America. We are seeking a skilled Axle Inspector to join our team. This person is responsible for inspecting incoming railcar axles to determine eligibility for reconditioning and ensuring all axles meet company and industry quality standards. This role also participates in the axle reconditioning process by operating hand tools, measuring devices, and shop equipment to support efficient and accurate refurbishment of components.Duties/Responsibilities:
Inspect railcar axles for defects, wear, and compliance with regulatory and customer specifications. Perform dimensional checks using micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools. Document inspection results, approve acceptable axles, and identify those requiring repair or rejection. Assist in the axle reconditioning process, including cleaning, preparing surfaces, and operating hand tools and shop equipment. Support machining, grinding, and surface preparation activities as needed to ensure proper refurbishment. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and materials processed. Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area. Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and ensure timely throughput. Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality standards and procedures (AAR, ISO, etc., if applicable).Skills/Experience Requirements:
Previous experience in mechanical inspection, machining, or railcar component work preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical specifications. Proficiency with hand tools, gauges, micrometers, and measuring equipment. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and dimensional variances. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a shop environment. Basic computer skills for documenting inspection results. Safety-focused mindset with knowledge of shop safety practices.Pay:
$18•$25 per hour depending on experience.Open Schedule:
2nd shift: Monday•Friday, 3:30pm•12am.Benefits:
