Job Description

At Penn Services, we build the steel that helps shape the St. Louis skyline and surrounding communities. From custom stairs and handrails to structural steel and specialty fabrication, our work is visible, lasting, and built to a standard we're proud to put our name on. We're looking for skilled fitters and welders who take pride in craftsmanship, work safely, and want to be part of a team that values quality over shortcuts. This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for individuals who can read drawings, think through a fabrication sequence, solve problems on the shop floor, and consistently produce quality work. What You'll Do Layout, fit, and weld structural steel and miscellaneous metal projects Fabricate stairs, handrails, platforms, frames, and custom steel assemblies Read and interpret shop drawings, dimensions, and weld symbols Operate welding equipment, fabrication tools, saws, grinders, and shop machinery Use jib cranes and overhead cranes to safely move materials and assemblies Verify dimensions and maintain quality standards throughout fabrication Work with supervisors and fellow craftsmen to meet production schedules Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work area What We're Looking ForRequired Skills Experience fitting and welding structural steel or miscellaneous metals Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings Ability to read weld symbols Ability to accurately read a tape measure and work comfortably with fractions Strong understanding of fabrication processes and shop practices Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Commitment to safety and quality Preferred Experience FCAW, GMAW, or SMAW welding experience Structural steel fabrication Stair and railing fabrication Overhead crane operation Forklift operation Must pass an in-house weld test.
