Welding Shop Helper Advanced Metal products Charlotte, NC Job Details Full-time $16 - $20 an hour 16 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Paid time off Opportunities for advancement Life insurance Qualifications Driver's License Sheet metal Hand tools Full Job Description Position Summary The Welding Shop Helper supports welders, fabricators, and other shop personnel by preparing materials, maintaining work areas, handling parts, operating basic shop equipment, and assisting with production activities. This position is responsible for helping maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while learning fabrication and welding processes. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaterial Handling Move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products throughout the facility. Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes (when trained and authorized). Stage materials and components for welders and fabricators. Assist with inventory organization and material storage. Welding and Fabrication Support Clean, grind, deburr, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication. Assist welders with fit-up, clamping, positioning, and handling of parts. Remove slag, spatter, and excess material from completed weldments. Perform basic drilling, cutting, sawing, and assembly operations as directed. Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively. Shop Maintenance and Housekeeping Maintain clean and organized work areas. Dispose of scrap materials and debris properly. Assist with routine maintenance of tools and equipment. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Maintain a clean and professional appearance of the facility. Quality and Safety Inspect materials and parts for obvious defects or damage. Follow work instructions, drawings, and supervisor directions. Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or quality concerns immediately. Support company quality management procedures and continuous improvement efforts. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous manufacturing, construction, welding, or fabrication experience preferred but not required. Ability to read a tape measure accurately. Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Forklift and crane experience is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in a manufacturing environment. Ability to work safely around welding operations, machinery, and material handling equipment. Work Environment Manufacturing and fabrication shop environment. Exposure to noise, dust, metal particles, welding fumes, and varying temperatures. Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, gloves, and other PPE as necessary. Performance Expectations Arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance. Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Follow safety rules and work instructions.
