Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter to join our fabrication shop. This position is responsible for laying out, fitting, and assembling structural steel components according to drawings, weld symbols, and shop standards. Work includes platforms, pipe racks, equipment supports, mezzanines, and custom assemblies. Key Responsibilities Read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication details Lay out and fit structural members using tape, square, levels, plumb bobs, and lasers Fit beams, columns, bracing, embeds, handrail, ladders, and miscellaneous steel Prep material for welding: beveling, grinding, cleaning, and alignment Verify dimensions, squareness, and tolerances before releasing to welders Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging safely Work with shop foreman to meet production schedules and QC requirements Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Qualifications 3+ years of structural steel fitting experience Strong ability to read drawings and understand weld symbols Proficient with layout tools and fabrication math Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain high accuracy Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs and stand for extended periods Overhead crane and forklift experience preferred
