Description:
The Welder/Manufacturing Technician II for a satellite branch is responsible for a wide variety of functions including the assembly of products, welding, painting, preparing products for shipment, loading, and unloading of trucks, and maintaining accurate job transaction paperwork. A Manufacturing Technician's time is split performing cutting and crimping operations to assemble our hose product line, makeup pipe, inspection, painting pipes, elbows, and other weldments, along with supporting the warehouse activities. The role is critical for customer safety as the product is used at the point of placement to control the flow and location of concrete being pumped under pressure. Additionally, the Manufacturing Technician II is responsible for locating and picking parts, transacting material moves with handheld scanner to maintain inventory accuracy, labeling, and preparing loads for shipment, receiving raw materials or stock, and loading or unloading trucks. The Manufacturing Technician II is expected to perform many job tasks even outside of role to delight the customer. The satellite warehouse, manufacturing, and office prides themselves on cross training and dependability for the customer. A strong work drive, self-motivation, problem solving, and teamwork are critical for this position.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Operate all equipment in a safe manner and use safe work habits. Maintain a safe and clean working environment including complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations. Follow specifications or procedures for set-up and machine operation using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge. Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions and procedures. Use a computer to access job information and accurately clock work transactions. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter. Remove rough spots from work pieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers. Clean or degrease parts using a wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath. Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, or oral instructions. Weld predominantly in the flat position operating a positioner to progress the weld. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material. Fill holes, cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders and templates. Examine work pieces for defects including use of weld gages or tape measures to ensure conformance with specifications. Check grooves, angles or gap allowances using micrometers, calipers, or other precision measuring equipment. Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment. Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts as necessary. Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, metal and poly bander, air hammer, chop saw, jig saw, and instruments of measurements. Wear all protective gear to maintain a safe work environment - no compromise. Assure the paint booth is clean with proper organization. All personal respirators are maintained. Paint per the procedure of primer, gloss, and metallic to meet the specifications. Cut appropriate hose material safely to length using a knife or powered bandsaw. Load proper hose and end materials into machinery utilizing cranes when necessary. Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machinery is working properly. Notify a supervisor promptly in the event a machine is not properly working. Conduct tests and inspections of products to evaluate quality and tolerance. Pick orders from stock or staging areas by hand, hand cart, pallet jack, or sitting fork truck. Prepare product for shipment to customers including affixing the appropriate labeling. Pack product in the appropriate box, crate, and/or shrink-wrap as required for the type of material being shipped. Verify the quantity and quality of materials picked and packaged for accuracy. Inspect materials and ensure bills of lading are correct. Affix complete address labels and any other special labels required for the handling of material as specified by the carriers. Take pride in proper packaging and handling of company's parts. Challenge others when the task is not being performed to a high level. Load trucks with outgoing products and unload trucks with incoming materials placing it in the appropriate locations. May perform local deliveries with company owned truck. Maintain complete and accurate paperwork. Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor. Willingness to cross train and perform the work of other job tasks when necessary.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. 3-5 years of welding experience preferred, with instruction such as a welding certificate or technical diploma counting toward experience. Aptitude to read and interpret blueprints and weld specifications. Six months or more of assembly, general labor, machine operation, and/or shipping and receiving experience preferred. Prior experience in shipping and receiving in a warehouse environment preferred. Prior experience operating forklifts, jib cranes, and overhead cranes preferred. Basic mathematical skills and ability to perform precise measurements using a tape measure, square and weld gages. Basic computer skills to accurately gather and input data from computer systems and record job transactions. Capability to lift 70 lbs with regularity and up to 150 lbs occasionally. Reliable transportation to and from work.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach above the shoulders. Regularly required to sit and move from place to place. Will frequently talk and listen, used hands to finger, handle, or touch. Ability to see both closely and at a distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions, units of measurement, and metric conversions. Ability to lift 70 lbs with regularity and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Ability to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to gather and input job information on a computer. Exposure to noise, sparks, smoke, fumes, and heat in a production environment. Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, saws, hand tools, banders, and instruments of measurements. Perform work standing on concrete for up to 10 hours per day.
