The Shop Support Technician/Apprentice is responsible for supporting the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and preparation of fire and life safety system components and equipment. This role ensures materials and equipment are job-ready, meet quality standards, and comply with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with the assembly and preparation of fire and life safety system components and materials. Support pipe cutting, threading, grooving, and general fabrication activities. Inspect, clean, and prepare equipment and materials for field installation and service. Receive and organize materials and ensure proper storage within the shop. Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and working condition. Perform basic maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment as needed. Assist with loading and unloading materials and preparing job shipments. Follow work orders, instructions, and basic drawings to complete assigned tasks. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. 1+ years of mechanical, warehouse, or construction experience preferred. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the day. Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
Experience in fire protection or life safety systems and familiarity with NFPA standards.
Other Duties:
Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50+ lbs regularly. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Use of hands and arms for handling tools, materials, and equipment.
