Layout FabricatorEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. Plan lay out, mark, and prepare metal plate, structural parts and/or pipe for fabrication and assembly according to specifications. Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, baseline, and frame lines. Interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine layout requirements. Measure, mark, and scribe locations for cutting, drilling, and assembly using appropriate layout tools. Develop templates and patterns for fabrication of standard and nonstandard parts. Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment of materials to ensure compliance with specifications. Coordinate with fitters, welders, and supervisors to ensure proper fit-up and fabrication sequence. Select materials and assist in determining proper layout methods based on project requirements. Use measuring instruments such as tapes, squares, levels, and other precision layout tools. Identify discrepancies in drawings or materials and report issues prior to fabrication. May assist in checking completed work for accuracy and conformance to specifications. Maintain work area in a safe and organized condition in accordance with company policies.Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma and/or one year certificate from college or technical school preferred. Industrial and/or marine layout experience: 1stClass:
3-5 years 2ndClass:
1-3 years Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals. NCCER card preferred.Working Conditions:
Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment. Working with heavy materials and in industrial environments. Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must be able to stand and operate equipment up to four continuous hours. The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.Necessary Equipment Operation:
Layout tools (squares, levels, tapes, plumb bobs) Measuring instruments Marking tools (soapstone, scribes) Hand & Power tools.Special Skills:
Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals. Perform basic mathematical functions.
