Structural Fitter Riggins Company - 3.1 Hampton, VA Job Details Full-time 4 hours ago Qualifications OSHA (regulatory compliance area) Mechanical assembly Blueprint specification interpretation Grinding machine operation Dimensional inspection Metal fabrication Dimensional measurements Geometry Lifts and hoists Power tools Welding Hand tools Entry level Measurement (quality control) Full Job Description Riggins Company, located in Hampton, VA, is seeking a full-time structural fitter/fabricator to join our growing and exciting team. We are a custom steel fabricator specializing in the design and fabrication of major structural components supporting the US Navy. The successful candidate must be able to read blueprints and be responsible for assembling, fitting, and aligning metal components to build structures such as frames, platforms, piping supports, and heavy equipment. Key Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications Lay out and measure materials using precision tools (tape measures, squares, levels) Cut, shape, and fit metal components using hand tools and power equipment Align and position structural parts prior to welding or bolting Tack weld components when required (depending on certification) Inspect fit-up to ensure proper dimensions and tolerances Operate equipment such as grinders, torches, and hoists Follow safety standards (OSHA) and company procedures Work collaboratively with welders, engineers, and supervisors Required Skills & Qualifications Ability to read technical drawings and weld symbols Strong understanding of structural fabrication and layout techniques Proficiency with measuring tools and fabrication equipment Knowledge of metal properties and tolerances Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions Basic math and geometry skills Welding experience (preferred but not always required)
