NSC Staffing NSC Staffing is seeking experienced Welders /Fitter to join our team in the Newport News, VA area! Position Overview The Welder/Fitter will perform structural steel and aluminum fabrication on a variety of marine vessels, including U.S. Naval ships, Military Sealift Command vessels, and commercial ships. This role includes welding, fitting, and fabrication work in support of ship repair, overhaul, and modernization projects. This position requires prior experience working in a 60-ft aerial boom lift. Key Responsibilities Work alongside one other team member in a 60-ft aerial boom lift. Fit 5/16" thick repair plates to match the radius of the dry dock cell wall. Use hand tools such as hammers, dogs, and wedges to properly align plates. Tack weld plates in place while aligning using a welding machine. Remove temporary brace plates and padeyes from fit-up using a 6" grinder with a cutting wheel. Perform single bevel groove welds (flush) on 5/16" thick dry dock cell wall plates after fit-up. Weld using FCAW (Flux-Core) or SMAW (Stick) processes. Grind and clean weld imperfections as needed. Ensure all welds meet visual inspection standards. Qualifications Must be able to work 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekends and overtime may be required, depending on the workload. Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Welder/Fitter in a shipyard or industrial environment Prior experience working in a 60-ft aerial boom lift (required) Proficiency in FCAW (Flux-Core) and/or SMAW (Stick) welding processes Experience welding 5/16" structural steel plate (single bevel groove welds preferred) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols Experience with structural steel and aluminum fabrication Skilled in fit-up using dogs, wedges, and other alignment tools Ability to grind, clean, and prepare weld surfaces to pass visual inspection Must be able to work at heights and in confined or industrial environments Must supply required PPE (welding shield, gloves, steel-toe boots, etc.) Why Work with NSC Staffing?
