Job Description
Job Description The Technician maintains and operates landfill gas collection systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance. This role involves hands-on mechanical work in an outdoor landfill environment, regular monitoring of wells and pumps, and accurate documentation of field data using a company-provided laptop. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has mechanical aptitude, and is comfortable working in a dynamic field setting. Responsibilities Maintain the landfill gas collection system to meet performance standards through timely and cost-effective operations and maintenance activities. Perform monthly monitoring of the wellfield, including measuring liquid levels in gas extraction wells and monitoring perimeter probes for surface emissions. Conduct routine maintenance on system components, including cleaning and maintaining pneumatic pumps, performing HDPE pipe welding, and supporting blower and flare operations. Maintain and service the condensate management system to support safe and efficient gas collection system performance. Use hand and power tools to inspect, repair, and maintain wells, pumps, and related equipment as needed. Document field observations, maintenance activities, and test results using a laptop and appropriate software tools. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards by participating in regular safety meetings and following established procedures and protocols. Develop and maintain accurate operating and maintenance records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Report field conditions, system performance issues, and test results to the supervisor and, when required, to the client. Operate a company vehicle to travel within the landfill site and, when needed, to assist at other locations in Indiana. Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions while safely navigating uneven terrain and inclines/declines. Support occasional weekend work or on-call needs as required by site operations. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and perform mechanical maintenance and repair tasks. Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions and willingness to work outside for 8+ hours per day. Construction or similar field experience that demonstrates comfort working in rugged, industrial, or landfill-type environments. Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools for maintenance, repair, and inspection activities. Basic technology and computer skills, including data entry and use of a laptop for documenting field activities. Familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar software for basic reporting and recordkeeping. Comfort working in an environment with landfill odors, including sulfur-like smells. Ability to walk and work safely on uneven terrain and on inclines and declines. Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle for site work and travel to other locations as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications No specific certificates or formal education are required for this position. Prior experience in landfill operations, environmental services, or inspection work is beneficial. Experience with environmental maintenance, gas collection systems, or related industrial systems is an advantage. Basic understanding of environmental or safety practices in an industrial or construction setting is helpful. Willingness to assist at other locations within Indiana when needed, using a company vehicle. Ability to participate actively in safety meetings and follow established safety procedures and guidelines. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is fully onsite at an active landfill that operates 24/7. The work is primarily outdoors, requiring the ability to work in all types of weather for 8+ hours per day. The terrain is uneven with inclines and declines, and the environment includes typical landfill odors, including sulfur-like smells, which may be strong at times. A company vehicle is provided and can be used for cover or to warm up or cool down during extreme weather. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekend work or on-call needs as operations require. Travel to assist at other locations within Indiana may be needed, using the company vehicle. Personal protective equipment includes steel-toed boots, and the company provides a boot voucher during the first week; additional company uniforms are provided for daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
