Senior Engineering Aide (Solid Waste) Bemus Point, NY 14712 $24.42 - $31.51 an hour - Full-time $24.42 - $31.51 an hour - Full-time Distinguishing Features of the Class The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Engineering Aide (Solid Waste) at the Ellery Landfill. This position involves a variety of diversified technical and semi-skilled tasks related to landfill operations, including surveying, monitoring, testing, and maintenance activities. The incumbent assists higher-level staff by performing delegated assignments or independently completes routine technical duties. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires the use of manual tools as well as computerized systems and software. This position differs from that of a Principal Engineering Aide in that the Senior Engineering Aide performs entry-level technical and maintenance work with more limited independence. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level landfill personnel. Does related work as required. Typical Work Activities Collects, records, and reports leachate flow readings Performs landfill surveying activities, including volume calculations and reporting Collects, packages, and submits stormwater samples for laboratory testing Monitors, records, adjusts, and balances landfill gas collection systems Utilizes computer software to generate reports on waste quantities and landfill data Assists with maintenance and repair of leachate pumping and metering systems Assists with maintenance and repair of office, scale house, and metering building mechanical systems Assists with piping and maintenance of landfill gas collection systems Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either: A. Successful completion of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, including coursework related to Land Surveying Technology or Engineering Technology, and one (1) year of experience in general building maintenance

• ; OR B. Two (2) years of experience performing land survey work, which must have included or been supplemented by one (1) year of experience in general building maintenance

• Qualifying experience includes work as a carpenter, electrician, mason, plumber, and/or HVAC installer.

Non-Qualifying Experience Experience limited to building cleaning is not qualifying. Building cleaning includes activities such as washing walls and windows, polishing floors, cleaning restrooms, and disposing of refuse. Additional Information This position is being filled on a provisional basis, pending the outcome of a future Civil Service examination. Candidates must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment and continued employment.

Pay:

$24.42 - $31.51 per hour
