Job Description

Utility Operator Clarendon, TX 79226 $16.60 - $25.90 an hour - Full-time $16.60 - $25.90 an hour - Full-time Job Overview Performs entry-level operational and maintenance work in the Utility Division related to the operation, monitoring, sampling, and maintenance of water and wastewater distribution and collection systems and associated facilities. Work includes routine inspections, basic field testing, recordkeeping, and assisting with maintenance and repairs in accordance with Authority policy and applicable state and federal regulations. The operator is required to reside within the assigned geographical area, as centrally located to the principal demand center as practical. Work is performed under general supervision.
ASSIGNED DUTIES
Assists in the operation and maintenance of water/wastewater distribution and collection systems, pump stations, storage facilities, and related infrastructure. Performs routine inspections of assigned facilities and system components and reports abnormal operating conditions to supervisory personnel. Assists with locating, operating, and maintaining valves, hydrants, service lines, blow-offs/flush locations, meters, and related appurtenances. Collects water/wastewater samples at designated locations in accordance with state and federal regulations and Authority procedures. Performs basic field testing as assigned and accurately records results. Assists with preventive maintenance and minor repairs to pumps, valves, meters, hydrants, service lines, and related equipment. Assists with routine flushing, leak response support, service work, and line maintenance activities as directed. Maintains accurate operational logs, work records, and other required documentation in accordance with Authority policy. Safely operates Authority vehicles, tools, and equipment in compliance with traffic laws and safety requirements. Loads, unloads, and handles chemicals, materials, and supplies in accordance with safety procedures. Responds to service calls and emergency situations assigned, including participation in after-hours and on-call rotations. Works cooperatively with all Authority personnelBecomes familiar with, and adheres to, the Authority's Administrative Policy and Procedure Manual and General Specifications Manual. Performs various other duties as may be assigned, either temporary or permanent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of water and/or wastewater utility operations or the ability to acquire such knowledge through training. Ability to use hand tools and operate utility equipment safely. Ability to read and follow written instructions, operating procedures, and safety guidelines. Ability to accurately complete logs, reports, and required documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and the public. Ability to plan and organize assigned tasks and manage time effectively. Ability to work under all weather conditions with exposure to chemicals and operational hazards. Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to approximately 60 pounds and working on uneven terrain.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, utility maintenance, or related field preferred but not required. Valid Texas Driver's License required. Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a specified timeframe after hire. Must obtain and maintain a TCEQ-issued Water or Wastewater Operator License (Class D or as required by assignment) within required timeframes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work on uneven or rough terrain. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and materials weighing up to approximately 60 pounds. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and safely perform assigned duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to noise, traffic, chemicals, confined spaces, and other hazards typical of utility operations. Position may be designated as essential personnel during emergencies or severe weather events.
