is seeking a qualified Certified Crane Operator / Terminal Assistant to support the safe and efficient operation of Canaveral Cargo Terminal. The successful candidate must possess a valid NCCCO Crane Operator Certification and demonstrate experience operating Mobile Harbor Cranes and/or Ship's Derrick Cranes in a marine terminal environment. The primary responsibility of this position is the safe, productive, and efficient loading and discharge of cargo from vessels utilizing mobile harbor cranes and shipboard lifting equipment. During periods when crane operations are not required, the employee will perform duties as a Terminal Assistant, supporting vessel, yard, rail, warehouse, and container operations. This position is initially offered as a Full-Time position following a successful probationary period of 3 to 6 months. Full-Time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and additional company perks.
Compensation Crane Operator Rate:
$40.00 per hour
Terminal Assistant Rate:
$16.00 per hour Terminal Assistant Rate with
Valid TWIC Card:
$18.00 per hour Overtime paid in accordance with applicable laws for all hours worked over 40 hours in a standard work week Essential Functions Crane Operations Perform pre-shift inspections of cranes and associated lifting equipment prior to operation. Safely and efficiently operate Mobile Harbor Cranes and/or Ship's Derrick Cranes to load, discharge, and move cargo. Conduct lifting operations in accordance with company procedures, industry best practices, and all applicable regulations. Maintain continuous communication with vessel personnel, signalmen, riggers, and terminal operations personnel. Monitor crane performance and report defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements immediately. Complete operational inspections and equipment reports as required. Ensure all lifting operations are conducted safely and efficiently while maximizing productivity. Terminal Assistant Operations Perform discharge and loading operations under the direction of the Terminal Superintendent and Operations Manager. Check all containers discharged, loaded, or restowed aboard vessels. Inspect containers for damage and accurately record findings. Direct and coordinate vessel lashing crews as required. Arrange containers and cargo for vessel loading operations. Conduct yard inventories and container location checks. Verify container seal numbers and condition for gate transactions. Assist with Container Freight Station (CFS) operations. Support rail loading and discharge activities. Process documentation required for cargo and container movements. Accompany Customs Officers and Government Inspectors during cargo inspections. Assist with cargo reconditioning and cargo handling activities, including lumber recouping and breakbulk cargo operations. Maintain terminal cleanliness and housekeeping standards. Assist with maintenance, painting, cleaning, and washing of terminal equipment and facilities. Perform other duties as assigned by terminal management. Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all operations. Ensure all activities are performed safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures. Conduct weekly safety inspections of assigned work areas. Participate in monthly safety meetings and training exercises. Assist with emergency response drills and safety training initiatives. Inspect and record Life Saving Appliances and Fire Fighting Equipment as required. Support compliance with Facility Security Plan requirements and applicable port security regulations. Follow all Environmental Management System (EMS) procedures and guidelines. Minimize environmental impact through responsible operational practices. Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses promptly. Minimum Qualifications Required Valid NCCCO Crane Operator Certification Ability to safely operate Mobile Harbor Cranes and/or Ship's Derrick Cranes (preferred minimum 1 year of crane operating experience in a marine terminal, port, construction, or industrial environment Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when vessel schedules require Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check Reliable transportation to Cape Canaveral, Florida Preferred Valid TWIC Card Experience in breakbulk, project cargo, container, and general cargo operations Experience working in a marine terminal environment Forklift, reach stacker, or heavy equipment operating experience License / Certification Required NCCCO Crane Operator Certification Ability to Commute Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 (Required) Work Location In Person Canaveral Cargo Terminal, Cape Canaveral, Florida
