Job Description
The Loader Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to load, unload, transport, and organize logs, lumber, chips, and other materials throughout the sawmill facility. This position plays a key role in supporting production flow, inventory management, and shipping operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience operating loaders or other heavy equipment in an industrial, logging, sawmill, or manufacturing environment. Major Responsibilities & Duties Safely operate front-end loaders, wheel loaders, or other heavy equipment to move logs, lumber, wood chips, and production materials throughout the sawmill facility. Load and unload trucks, trailers, conveyors, and storage areas efficiently and safely. Maintain a steady flow of raw materials to production areas to support operational demands. Stack and organize materials in designated storage and yard locations. Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Monitor equipment performance and communicate repair needs to maintenance personnel. Assist with inventory management and material tracking as needed. Maintain safe work practices while operating equipment around employees, machinery, and production areas. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures. Maintain clean and organized work areas and assist with general housekeeping duties. Support production teams and perform additional operational tasks as assigned. Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceEducation & Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience operating loaders or heavy equipment in a sawmill, logging, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment preferred. Heavy equipment certification or training preferred. Required Skills Ability to safely operate loaders and heavy equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment. Strong awareness of surroundings and commitment to workplace safety. Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify equipment issues. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Dependable attendance and strong work ethic. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions. Frequent exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and industrial machinery. Must be able to sit, climb, bend, and operate heavy equipment for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Required to wear all appropriate PPE, including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots. Must be comfortable working in fast-paced production environments with moving equipment and materials. Position requires hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and the ability to safely maneuver heavy machinery in tight operating areas.
