Job Description:
As our Lumber Grader, your main goal is to look at lumber and figure out its quality and grade based on standard wood industry rules. You'll be the gatekeeper of our quality control, making sure we get the most value out of every log while keeping bad boards from slipping through.
Responsibilities:
Inspect & Grade:
Visual inspection of lumber to determine grade, species, and quality according to established grading rules.
Sort & Mark:
Correctly mark and sort lumber based on defects, knots, splits, and grain variations.
Tally & Record:
Maintain accurate records of graded lumber and production counts.
Safety First:
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace while adhering to all OSHA and company safety protocols.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with sawyers and material handlers to ensure a smooth, efficient production flow.
Education:
No formal education required.
Experience:
3 months
Skills:
Experience:
Previous experience as a Lumber Grader or in a sawmill/wood manufacturing environment is highly preferred (NHLA certification is a major plus, but not required). Sharp Eye for
Detail:
Ability to quickly and accurately identify wood defects and grade variations.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
Reliability:
Strong attendance record and a punctual, "team-first" attitude.
Math Skills:
Basic math skills for counting, tallying, and measuring.
