About theRole:
The Underground Miner plays a critical role in the extraction of valuable minerals and resources from beneath the earth's surface, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of mining activities. This position requires working in challenging underground environments to access ore deposits, operate specialized mining equipment, and support the overall production goals of the mining site. The miner must adhere to strict safety protocols to protect themselves and their team while maintaining high standards of operational efficiency. Collaboration with engineers, safety personnel, and other miners is essential to optimize extraction processes and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Ultimately, the Underground Miner contributes directly to the successful and sustainable recovery of mineral resources, supporting the economic objectives of the mining operation.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid certification in underground mining safety and health (e.g., MSHA Part 48 training). Experience operating heavy machinery in an underground mining environment. Ability to pass physical fitness assessments and medical examinations related to underground work. Strong understanding of mining safety protocols and emergency procedures.Preferred Qualifications:
Additional technical training or certification in mining equipment operation or maintenance. Experience with computerized mining systems and software. Knowledge of geology and mineralogy relevant to the mining site. Previous experience working in a unionized mining environment. First aid and CPR certification.Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain underground mining equipment such as drills, loaders, and haul trucks to extract ore safely and efficiently. Follow detailed mining plans and blueprints to ensure accurate and effective excavation of mineral deposits. Conduct regular inspections of mining areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Assist in the installation and maintenance of ground support systems including rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete to stabilize tunnels. Collaborate with team members to coordinate material transport, ventilation, and emergency response procedures. Report any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues promptly to supervisors. Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements.Skills:
The Underground Miner utilizes technical skills daily to operate complex mining machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring continuous production flow. Strong problem-solving abilities are essential for identifying and addressing operational challenges or equipment issues underground. Effective communication skills enable the miner to coordinate with team members and report critical information clearly, which is vital for maintaining safety and productivity. Knowledge of safety regulations and emergency response procedures is applied constantly to minimize risks in a hazardous environment.
