Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator in a unique and challenging environment, where you will transport salt and other materials within our expansive salt mine. This role involves loading, hauling, and unloading materials efficiently while ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and operational procedures. Responsibilities Move materials with heavy equipment underground. Transport salt from one end of the mine to the other using heavy equipment. Inspect finished products to ensure they meet required specifications. Assist the maintenance department with preventative maintenance on equipment when needed. Operate forklifts and other heavy equipment to move salt throughout the mine. Complete assigned paperwork accurately for specific customers/orders. Perform daily housekeeping tasks. Essential Skills Experience with heavy equipment operating, including excavators, dump trucks, haul trucks, dozers, and loaders, particularly CAT equipment. A safety-conscious mindset with a 'see something, say something' attitude. Ability to work underground and be comfortable spending most, if not all, of the shift in the salt mine. Ability to lift 50+ lbs repetitively during a 10-hour shift. Possession of steel-toed boots/shoes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Long-term heavy equipment operating experience within a mine setting is preferred. Why Work Here? The mine is wide, open, and spacious, akin to a large warehouse, and is not a cramped or confined space. The environment can vary in temperature, requiring candidates to work in both hot and cold conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46384.00 - $47632.00/yr. 324 benefits when direct BCBS Medical Delta Dental VSP Vision Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Detroit,MI.
