Job Description

Deep Drilling SuperintendentPosition OverviewThe Deep Drilling Superintendent will lead and oversee all aspects of deep foundation and subsurface construction activities on large-scale civil and infrastructure projects. The role is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising drilling, shaft work, pile installation, concrete pours and piledriving operations to ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery while meeting quality and regulatory requirements. The Superintendent will serve as the primary field leader, coordinating crews, equipment, subcontractors and stakeholders to execute complex geotechnical scope in varied site conditions.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise day-to-day deep foundation operations including bored piles, CFA, drilled shafts, secant/contiguous walls, and piledriving activities.

Plan, schedule and sequence drilling and shaft works to meet project milestones while optimizing crew and equipment utilization.

Direct and manage field crews, subcontractors and equipment operators; provide coaching, assign tasks and enforce work standards.

Oversee concrete pours, formwork, reinforcement placement and curing procedures specific to deep foundation elements to ensure structural integrity.

Implement, monitor and enforce site safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety policies; conduct toolbox talks and safety audits.

Coordinate geotechnical and structural engineering inputs, review plans and shop drawings, and work with engineers to resolve field challenges and design adjustments.

Maintain quality control and inspection procedures for drilling, piling and shaft construction; document inspections, test results and non-conformances.

Manage logistics for equipment mobilization, rig moves, materials, drilling fluids and waste handling consistent with environmental and permitting requirements.

Prepare and maintain daily reports, as-built records, time sheets, productivity logs and progress updates for project management and clients.

Control project costs by tracking labor, equipment hours and materials; identify risks and recommend mitigation to keep work within budget.

Ensure permits, permits renewals and site access requirements are secured and communicated to all relevant parties.

Communicate effectively with project managers, owners, geotechnical engineers, stakeholders and local authorities to coordinate interface works and resolve issues promptly.

QualificationsMinimum 8+ years of progressive field experience in deep foundations, drilling or geotechnical construction with at least 3 years in a superintendent or equivalent field leadership role.

Proven experience with deep foundation techniques including shaft drilling, bored piles, pile driving, secant walls and concrete pours.

Strong knowledge of construction methods, soil and rock behavior, drilling equipment and drilling fluids.

Demonstrated ability in field supervision, crew management and subcontractor coordination on heavy civil or infrastructure projects.

Working knowledge of quality assurance/quality control procedures, construction testing, and as-built documentation.

Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA), environmental permitting and on-site hazardous materials handling procedures; OSHA 30 and First Aid training preferred.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, shop drawings and construction specifications.

Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills with a track record of resolving complex field issues under schedule pressure.

Proficient with field reporting tools and basic construction software (MS Office, email, scheduling tools); experience with project management or BIM tools is a plus.

Valid drivers license; willingness to travel and work extended hours on site. Union experience and prior work on large marine, bridge or heavy civil projects is preferred.
