The City of Moreno Valley is seeking skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operators to join our Public Works Department. Under general supervision, Equipment Operators perform a variety of operational tasks involving light- and medium-duty motorized equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City grounds and facilities.

The ideal candidate for the Equipment Operator position is a skilled professional with extensive experience in public works maintenance and construction. They are proficient in operating and maintaining various motorized equipment, including street sweepers, Vactor trucks, backhoes, paving equipment, and dump trucks. A strong understanding of safety protocols is essential, as they must prioritize the well-being of themselves, their coworkers, and the public while performing maintenance tasks. Problem-solving skills and adaptability are key, enabling them to assess job-site conditions, determine appropriate actions, and respond to emergencies as needed. Effective communication and teamwork are also vital, as they collaborate with City staff, provide accurate reports, and assist in training others on proper equipment operation. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of Moreno Valley's public infrastructure, ensuring safe and well-maintained streets and facilities for the community.MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS A
typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of light- and medium-duty construction, maintenance, street sweeping, and vactor equipment operation and construction-related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Equipment Operator is the skilled, journey-level class in the public works operator series. Primary duties involve the operation of a variety of light- and medium-duty motorized equipment, such as street sweepers, vactor trucks, backhoes and dump trucks.

The Public Works department is responsible for public works administration, city engineering, maintenance of public facilities located within the street right-of-way, design and construction of City-built capital improvements, and administration of traffic facilities, providing electric service to new development in residential, commercial, and industrial areas, and related activities.
