THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Moreno Valley is seeking skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operators to join our Public Works Department. Under general supervision, Equipment Operators perform a variety of operational tasks involving light

• and medium-duty motorized equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City grounds and facilities.

Primary responsibilities include operating street sweepers, Vactor trucks, backhoes, paving equipment, and dump trucks to maintain the City's infrastructure. This journey-level position requires sound judgment, initiative, and technical proficiency to complete assignments independently. Equipment Operators play a vital role in preserving City streets, storm drainage systems, and public spaces while ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the Equipment Operator position is a skilled professional with extensive experience in public works maintenance and construction. They are proficient in operating and maintaining various motorized equipment, including street sweepers, Vactor trucks, backhoes, paving equipment, and dump trucks. MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS A

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Equipment Operator is the skilled, journey-level class in the public works operator series. Primary duties involve the operation of a variety of light

• and medium-duty motorized equipment, such as street sweepers, vactor trucks, backhoes and dump trucks.

Most assignments are performed independently and require sound judgment and initiative. Equipment Operator is distinguished from Senior Equipment Operator in that incumbents in the latter class perform the more complex heavy-equipment operator assignments and may be responsible for providing lead work direction and training to a work crew.

The Public Works department is responsible for public works administration, city engineering, maintenance of public facilities located within the street right-of-way, design and construction of City-built capital improvements, and administration of traffic facilities, providing electric service to new development in residential, commercial, and industrial areas, and related activities. Eligible List:

Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
