to become a Heavy Equipment Operator and join the City of Napa's hard working Public Works team! The City of Napa's Public Works Street Maintenance Division is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator. Our Public Works Street Maintenance Division maintains nearly 470 lane miles of roadway throughout the City of Napa. Heavy Equipment Operators play a key role in keeping our streets safe and in good condition by supporting a variety of maintenance and improvement projects. In this role, you'll operate a range of heavy, power-driven equipment used in street maintenance and construction. You may also provide lead direction to a small crew, helping guide daily work activities and training team members on work methods, proper use of tools and equipment, and safety practices. Our Heavy Equipment Operators work in our Streets Division, which maintains and operates city streets and the public right-of-way. Our team of Heavy Equipment Operators are primarily focused on implementing upgrades to our roadway infrastructure. We work closely with others to improve our community through asphalt street resurfacing; concrete sidewalk, ADA ramp, and curb/gutter upgrades; and installation of new street signs and roadway markings. We also maintain the City's stormwater system and provide support for roadway and/or other localized emergencies.

EXAM IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2026
The Performance Exam is tentatively scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026. During the skills testing component (Performance Exam), you will be asked to perform a variety of tasks related to duties of this role, such as interacting with tools and equipment as applicable to the position.
