Job Description
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of material handlers and loaders to move, load and unload recyclable materials. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Operating material handlers and loaders of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies Performing routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; cleaning equipment, greasing equipment, and referring defects or repairs to supervisor. Performing all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and operating standards; report potentially unsafe conditions Providing constant courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment with customers and co-workers Assist with purchasing of material as needed Performing other work-related duties as assigned Consistently at work and on-time Any other work as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Two (2) years experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the metal recycling industry Skill in operation of above-listed tools and equipment Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally Ability to observe proper safety precautions Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and customers Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions Ability to make independent judgments which have considerable impacts on the organization Ability to understand industry material and proper handling The candidate must be able to work Monday-Friday. 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday 8 am to 1:00 pm. The schedule may vary depending on company needs. All Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
