The Sitework Lead Operator is responsible for operating heavy duty construction equipment to spread earth, grade terrain, or move dirt and rock, while supporting the Foreman and crew as the eyes and ears on the ground. The Sitework Lead Operator is a highly experienced equipment operator and a strong leader among their team. The Sitework Lead is able to support and guide their crew through enhanced communication and interpersonal skills while maintaining a highly productive worksite.
COMPENSATION
$35.77 to $54.52 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform operational role on crew as assigned, including driving, operating and maneuvering assigned heavy construction equipment. Demonstrate working knowledge of assigned projects including specifications and scope requirements to support Foreman and Superintendents in ensuring project is constructed according to intended design, quality, and safety standards while maintaining budget and time goals. Understand and apply knowledge of project plans and specifications. Read and interpret grade stakes, site markings, maps, blueprints, and or drawings to move soil according to defined specifications. Demonstrate solid team leadership and assist with training and development. Be accessible to co-workers to address questions and concerns. Ensure all crew members practice safe behaviors, wear proper PPE and comply with all OSHA and project safety requirements. Utilize the appropriate and/or assigned construction machinery to safely, efficiently, and productively excavate, move, and grade soils in accordance with the defined parameters. Properly set up and utilize grade control devices to assist in reaching the defined grade tolerances. Use and understand all safety requirements. Convey information to and receive information from supervisors and co-workers effectively. Remain actively aware of surroundings near the equipment to maintain safe operation and distances from potential hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects. Perform basic repairs to equipment in the event Field Mechanics are not available on site. Coordinate machine functions with crew members in response to hand and audio signals. Work with Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, and team to ensure job is done to specifications. Ensure projects and crew continue at a high level while Foreman is off site or on vacation. Gather and enter crew payroll time and verify accuracy and cost code as needed. Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company's primary mode of communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required :
Construction heavy equipment operating experience performing grading and earthwork activities or progressive field experience in related construction industry. Advanced skill in successfully, safely, and efficiently operating at least one or more pieces of equipment such as Front-end Loader, Backhoe, Skid-steer, or Excavator with experience in the heavy commercial, industrial, or civil construction markets. Highly proficient in checking grade, reading stakes, and the ability to successfully perform necessary related math functions. Extremely self-motivated with the ability to take the lead on assignments as well as follow instructions and work within parameters of excellency established by leadership. Good safety history and a willingness to engage and contribute to ongoing safe work practices, such as daily equipment inspections and reporting incidents, as well as strong knowledge of excavation, trenching and shoring safety standards. Top-notch communication skills with the ability to effectively, respectfully, and positively interact with supervisors, team members, and subcontractors. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, to ensure safety and conformance with state and local rules and regulations. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Two years of proven equipment operation experience in the heavy civil construction industry. High School diploma or
GED. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Operators are subject to continuous bouncing, shaking and equipment vibration throughout the course of their shift. Work functions require the ability to sit, stand, and ride in vehicles for long periods of time, as well as the physical ability and mobility to repeatedly push, pull and climb repeatedly, to access equipment, modify attachments, and control cabin. Work functions also require ability to: Push/pull/manipulate hand tools up to 54 ft/lbs. (force) Lift/load 55 lbs. and carry 150 ft, including but not limited to fittings, generators, jumping jacks, water meters, equipment, and/or various other materials Ability to squat and kneel Ability to climb in and out of equipment Ability to reach above head and 6-inches with fine gross motor skill Ability to operate various-sized fire extinguishers in training or emergency situations Ability to dig/shovel various soils while performing daily duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT
