Job Description

Job Summary The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy machinery used in construction projects such as excavation, grading, material handling, roadwork, and site development. This position supports daily construction operations by ensuring equipment is operated efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, skid steers, backhoes, graders, rollers, and compactors. Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material movement tasks. Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance. Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or repair needs. Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety procedures. Work safely around underground utilities, structures, traffic, and other workers. Coordinate with supervisors, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members to complete projects efficiently. Maintain equipment cleanliness and proper operating condition. Assist with general construction labor duties as needed. Qualifications Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction preferred. Knowledge of construction practices, excavation procedures, and job site safety. Ability to operate equipment safely in varying terrain and weather conditions. Valid driver's license required. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Physical Requirements Ability to climb in and out of equipment repeatedly throughout the day. Ability to sit and operate machinery for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Good vision, coordination, and depth perception. Work Environment Active construction sites with exposure to dust, noise, vibration, mud, and heavy equipment traffic. Work may involve uneven ground, trenches, confined areas, and changing weather conditions. Overtime and weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.
