Job Description

Equipment Operator Washington, DC 20020 Up to $43.09 an hour - Temporary, Contract Up to $43.09 an hour - Temporary, Contract Job Summary National Service Contractors, Inc. is hiring experienced Equipment Operators for the DC Water 19A Small Diameter Watermain Replacement in Washington, DC. Operators will support excavation, trenching, backfill, grading, loading, restoration, and utility installation activities. This project includes small diameter watermain replacement, copper water service replacements, valves, curb stops, meter boxes, service connections, testing support, chlorination support, and restoration coordination. Candidates must be properly trained, qualified, and/or certified to operate the equipment assigned to them. Operators must be experienced working around existing utilities, active roadways, pedestrians, trench boxes, and pipe crews. Responsibilities
  • Operate excavators, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, rollers, compactors, and other construction equipment as needed.
  • Excavate trenches for watermain and water service replacement.
  • Work safely around existing underground utilities, active services, trench boxes, traffic, pedestrians, and field crews.
  • Assist with loading trucks, placing bedding material, backfilling, grading, compacting, and restoration.
  • Support pipe crews with watermain installation, service replacement, valve installation, curb stops, meter boxes, and related utility work.
  • Follow direction from the foreman and superintendent.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety issues immediately.
  • Maintain safe work zones around operating equipment.
  • Assist with project activities related to pressure testing, chlorination, flushing, service reconnections, and restoration as directed.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and project-specific safety procedures.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Qualifications
  • Previous equipment operating experience in underground utility, watermain, sewer, storm drain, or heavy civil construction.
  • Experience operating around existing underground utilities preferred.
  • Ability to work safely in tight urban work zones and active roadway conditions.
  • Knowledge of trench safety, excavation safety, utility protection, and equipment safety.
  • Must have proper certification, training, or documented qualification to operate assigned equipment.
  • Equipment operator certification preferred or required based on equipment type and project requirements.
  • Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and identify safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • OSHA 10 preferred.
  • OSHA 30 is a plus.
  • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a crew. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, shovel, climb, bend, and work around trenches, traffic, pedestrians, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and wear required PPE at all times. Schedule
  • Monday through Friday.
  • Day shift.
  • Overtime may be available based on project needs.
  • Weekend or off-hour work may be required only when approved or required by project conditions. Compensation This is a prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon project. Pay will be based on the applicable classification, experience, and actual work performed. How to Apply
