Job Description
Job Title:
Roller Operator Job Description As a Roller Operator, you will operate double drum steel wheel and/or pneumatic rollers to compact asphalt surfaces to the required density and smoothness. You will achieve proper compaction in accordance with project specifications and quality control requirements while working in coordination with the paver operator and screed operator to maintain consistent rolling patterns. Responsibilities Operate rollers to achieve proper compaction. Monitor mat temperature and adjust rolling techniques accordingly. Perform breakdown, intermediate, and finish rolling as required. Identify and correct surface imperfections, including roller marks and displacement. Maintain awareness of grade, slope, and drainage requirements. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment. Perform routine maintenance including checking fluids, grease points, and general equipment cleanliness. Communicate effectively with crew members to ensure safe and efficient workflow. Assist crews with all aspects of site work when not paving. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience operating asphalt rollers preferred. Knowledge of asphalt compaction procedures and rolling patterns. Ability to read and understand site plans and grade stakes. Strong understanding of safety standards and jobsite awareness. Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends when required. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required). Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to perform physical labor when needed and assist crew as required. Why Work Here? Work Environment Construction equipment operators work in nearly every weather condition, although rain or extremely cold weather can stop some types of construction. Workers often get dirty, greasy, muddy, or dusty. You must have the ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment, climb in and out of equipment multiple times per day, and lift up to 50 lbs when assisting the crew. Work is conducted outdoors in various weather conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Bear, DE.
