$18.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications About Us Smith & Company Inc. is a growing heavy civil construction contractor specializing in underground utilities, site development, roadway improvements, and asphalt construction throughout the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas. We are seeking dependable, safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operators who take pride in their work and want to be part of a professional team that values quality, productivity, and safety. Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, graders, and compactors. Perform excavation, trenching, grading, site preparation, material movement, and utility installation activities. Work safely around underground utilities, structures, personnel, and active construction sites. Read and follow grade stakes, site plans, and supervisor instructions. Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs. Perform basic preventative maintenance, including greasing, fluid checks, and equipment cleaning. Work closely with pipe crews, laborers, foremen, and superintendents to ensure safe and efficient project completion. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience. Experience operating excavators, loaders, dozers, skid steers, or similar construction equipment. Ability to work safely and efficiently in a construction environment. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to work as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with underground utility construction. Experience with site development and roadway construction. Ability to read grade stakes and site plans. GPS machine control experience (Topcon, Trimble, etc.). CDL preferred but not required. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
