Heavy Equipment Operator
PW-STDR/3
Public Works - Streets and Drainage
JOB SUMMARY
This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of county streets and related infrastructure.
MAJOR DUTIES
Operates a variety of equipment, including excavator, loader, dump truck, mowers, lowboy, motor grader, dozer, etc. Performs a variety of public works maintenance activities, including maintaining and repairing roads, bridges, rights-of-way, drainage structures, driveways, etc. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections. Loads and transports materials, fuel, and equipment to and from work sites. Flags traffic and installs traffic control devices at work sites. Cuts and cleans out-fall ditches; removes trees. Pours concrete for drainage structures and sidewalks. Installs drain pipes. Assists with other public works operations as assigned. Responds to after-hours emergencies. Participates in storm clean-up. Performs related duties.

Heavy Equipment Operator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of a valid Class A commercial driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
