Job Description

Dan Lafferty Construction, Inc has an immediate opening for two motivated, safety-conscious, and dependable individuals as full-time heavy equipment Operators. This position supports construction projects throughout Boise, Twin Falls (Idaho) and surrounding areas and offers an opportunity to work with specialized trenching equipment in a growing segment of the construction industry. We are looking for aspiring equipment operators who have a strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take direction well. Previous heavy equipment experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. Training will be provided for qualified applicants. The ideal candidate will be trustworthy, hardworking, reliable, safety-focused, work overtime as project schedules requires, work away from home as needed and willing to take directions from supervisors and senior operators. Wages DOE Position Overview The primary function of this position is to safely and efficiently operate large cab mounted trenching equipment on various construction projects. Operators are responsible for maintaining production goals while ensuring trench accuracy, performing daily equipment greasing, fueling and light maintenance, complete daily paperwork and abide by all company safety policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment. Produce clean, accurate, and unobstructed trenches that meet project specifications. Utilize machine control systems for trench alignment, grade control, and documentation. Assist with project layout and trench alignment. Perform QA/QC inspections to ensure trench dimensions and grades meet project requirements. Complete daily production reports, equipment inspection forms, and project documentation. Perform daily equipment inspections including fueling, checking fluid levels, greasing, and preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor mechanical repairs as needed. Load, unload, secure, and transport equipment safely. Read and monitor ground conditions and communicate changing conditions to supervisors and crew members. Operate company vehicles safely and in accordance with company policies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Assist with labor and support activities as needed. Follow all company, OSHA, MSHA, and project-specific safety requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements Required Desire to learn heavy equipment operation. Valid Driver's License with a clean and insurable driving record. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and project personnel. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently while maintaining safe work practices. Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings. Ability to pass a motor vehicle records review. Willingness to travel and stay out of town as required, typically Monday through Friday. Willingness to work overtime, extended shifts, and occasional weekends as project demands require. Preferred Previous rock trenching experience. Experience operating trenching equipment. Welding and fabrication experience. Construction, utility, mining, pipeline, or excavation industry experience. CDL Class A license. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly. Walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, and pull throughout the workday. Work in uneven terrain and varying weather conditions year-round. Stand and work on your feet for extended periods. Drive company vehicles and equipment for extended periods. Safely access and exit heavy equipment multiple times throughout the day.
