Hourly SUMMARY:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating the heavy equipment in our recycling yards.
REPORTS TO
Yard Supervisor / Yard Manager
SUPERVISES

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform pre
  • and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear-view camera are clean and operational.
Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring to more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair. Operate material handling crane to move material within the yard. Load and unload trucks / trailers of material with crane or other material handling equipment. Process and prepare scrap metal material for shipping per instructions. Direct customers within the yard and help customers unload material. This position will be cross trained to help in other areas of the yard as needed. Regular and timely attendance is an expectation of the position. Follow the 5S foundations for deploying lean production tools and processes.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Previous Heavy Equipment Operator experience preferred. High School Diploma preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Activity:
Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs.
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity:
ability to operate machinery and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned including making general observations of facilities. The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Some protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Also subject to dust, dirt, and extreme noise.
