SUMMARY AAI
is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role operates equipment while actively working in the field to support asbestos abatement and light demolition projects. The operator plays a key role in executing work safely, maintaining productivity and supporting the crew on-site. This position requires both technical operating experience and the ability to help lead and coordinate daily work activities to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality project execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers and related machinery
  • Performs hands-on work alongside the crew in abatement and demolition activities
  • Supports daily job execution and helps coordinate crew tasks and workflow
  • Maintains compliance with federal/state/local safety and environmental regulations Conducts daily equipment inspections and ensures proper maintenance and care
  • Adjusts equipment operation and workflow based on site conditions/project needs
  • Communicates progress, issues and equipment needs to supervisors
  • Ensures safe work practices are followed at all times, including PPE requirements
  • Supports schedule adherence by minimizing downtime and maintaining productivity
  • Assists with directing laborers and ensuring work is completed to specifications
  • Completes required documentation including equipment logs, checklists and reports
LEADERSHIP & SOFT SKILLS
Crew supervision
  • Experience training and mentoring junior operators and laborers. Safety-first mindset
  • Strong record of zero major incidents and enforcement of OSHA/company protocols. Problem-solving
  • Ability to adapt to unexpected challenges (structural instability, hidden hazards, weather delays). Communication
  • Clear coordination with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors . Time & resource management
  • Keeps projects on schedule and within budget.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED (preferred but not always required)
EXPERIENCE
3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in demolition, construction or environmental remediation Experience working on asbestos abatement or demolition projects preferred Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely in controlled or sensitive environments Ability to perform physical labor as part of a working crew Strong understanding of safety regulations (OSHA) and jobsite practices Experience leading or coordinating small crews is a plus Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
TECHNICAL SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS
Mastery of heavy demolition equipment
  • high reach excavators, pulverizers, shears, and materials processors Advanced safety certifications
  • OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, 40-hr asbestos contractor supervisor, confined space entry, and fall protection. Rigging
  • understanding of rigging and controlled demolition techniques Blueprint & plan reading
  • ability to interpret demolition plans, site surveys, and engineering reports Mechanical aptitude
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment to minimize downtime Technology
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies as deployed, such as the use of an iPad to log trucks, manage projects, perform inspections, and manage projects.
Specific experience in FieldFlo is desirable.
