Job Description

Basic Metals is looking to add a new member to our team! We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator today!
Heavy Equipment Operator:
Operates excavators and other heavy equipment as needed to unload, sort, process and load scrap metal recyclables.
Heavy Equipment Operator Job Duties Include:
Operate mag crane, excavators and other large equipment as needed. Move materials from inbound and onto outbound trucks, and load into outbound containers in a safe and efficient manner. Transfer materials to their designated areas for further processing as directed. Be aware of all employees, peddlers, and possible hazards on the property when performing work. Maintain all equipment in a clean, safe and operational condition. Clean the steel yard as necessary using appropriate equipment. Perform the job safely; and be alert to - and report - other hazards in the yard.
Skills and Qualifications:
Have a good knowledge of the mechanical aspects, limitations, repair, and cleaning of heavy equipment. Must be able to work efficiently without direct supervision. Ability to work outdoors year round in all different elements including heat, cold, rain and snow Must be physically able to speak to management and other employees or customers; maintain, clean and keep in good condition the equipment; and keep records of repairs. Must maintain a heavy equipment operator's license. (We provide annual testing) Must maintain a forklift operator's license. (We provide annual testing) Must be able to take direction and execute plans effectively.
