Heavy Equipment Operator - Water Resources Operations The City of Greensboro is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Operator to support water and sewer construction and maintenance operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining critical public infrastructure through the safe operation of heavy equipment and adherence to safety standards. Estimated Hiring Salary Range :
$50,376.00 - $57,573.00
Full Salary Range :
$43,755.00 - $78,299.00

Here Work Schedule:
Monday -Thursday, 4 days per week (10 hours per day) 6:15 am - 4:45 pm About the Department The Water Resources Operations Division is responsible for maintaining and improving Greensboro's water and sewer infrastructure systems. Field operations staff work daily to support safe water delivery, wastewater collection, emergency repairs, and long-term infrastructure reliability throughout the city. Role:
The Heavy Equipment Operator performs water and sewer construction and maintenance work through the safe and effective operation of heavy equipment and related machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate backhoes/loaders for daily water and sewer construction and maintenance activities Operate additional equipment, including skid steer loaders, track loaders, large excavators, and dump trucks as needed Perform work in compliance with OSHA trenching and shoring requirements Utilize knowledge of utility locate color code systems and work zone safety procedures Support field crews during maintenance, repair, and emergency response operations Assist with maintaining safe job sites and proper equipment operation Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours and emergency response work Additional Position Details Must possess or obtain a Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire Position requires work in all weather conditions and emergency response situations Requires physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds , bending, stooping, and kneeling Must participate in an on-call rotation Position is

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/ GED "OR" an equivalency of 5 years of "directly related" work experience with Heavy Equipment as it pertains to the position 1+ years of Heavy Equipment experience Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License Experience Operating 2 and 4-lever backhoes (Must indicate backhoe types on application)
Forklift License Preferred Qualifications:
Welding Experience or Welding Certification Requirements Work Schedule:
