Job Description
JG Grading & Landscaping is actively looking to add experienced operators and a foreman to our growing team. We currently have immediate openings and are looking for motivated individuals who take pride in their work, want to grow, and understand what it takes to build a project correctly from start to finish. We are not simply looking for someone who can move dirt from one place to another. We are looking for people who understand the complete process of building a project and take pride in producing quality work. Experience operating excavators and/or dozers is required. Finish grading experience is highly preferred. This position is best suited for individuals with real equipment operating experience. There is a difference between running equipment and operating it correctly. We are running fast-paced, production-based projects and are looking for people who already understand the work and can step in and contribute from day one. We can find haul truck drivers. We can find roller operators. We can find skid steer operators. We can find mini excavator operators. What we are looking for are people who understand grade, drainage, slopes, compaction, soil conditions, production, and efficiency. People who understand where to cut, where to place material, how to reduce unnecessary handling, and how to move a project forward productively every day. People who understand that operating equipment is more than simply moving dirt from one location to another. It is understanding why the dirt is being moved, where it needs to go, how it needs to be placed, and how to accomplish the task efficiently while maintaining quality. We are looking for people who can work from stakes, elevations, lasers, grade rods, and field conditions while understanding the finished product they are trying to achieve. We are looking for people who understand that production is not simply moving dirt as fast as possible. Production is understanding where to cut, where to place material, how to minimize unnecessary handling, how to reduce wasted movement, how to control fuel usage, how to reduce wear and tear on equipment, and how to complete quality work efficiently. The goal is not to burn the most fuel or make the most passes. The goal is to move a project forward safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining quality. We aim to move dirt once and do it correctly. Understanding production is not just about moving material. It is understanding how to move the right material, to the right location, in the most efficient manner possible while maintaining quality and minimizing unnecessary machine wear, fuel consumption, and rework. The ideal candidate should be able to: ✔ Read and work from grade stakes and elevations ✔ Setup and use rotary lasers and accurately read a grade rod ✔ Cut and maintain grade ✔ Rough grade and finish grade accurately ✔ Understand grading, drainage, water flow, and slope construction ✔ Understand compaction and lift requirements ✔ Identify suitable and unsuitable soils ✔ Understand how changing soil conditions affect a project ✔ Understand how to lay work out and build it correctly from start to finish ✔ Operate excavators, dozers, skid steers, rollers, motor graders, haul trucks, and other earthmoving equipment ✔ Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance ✔ Keep equipment clean, greased, serviced, fueled, and ready to work ✔ Take care of equipment as if it were their own ✔ Understand that production, fuel consumption, equipment wear, and efficiency all matter ✔ Understand how to operate efficiently while reducing unnecessary machine wear, idle time, fuel consumption, and material handling ✔ Report maintenance concerns and equipment issues promptly ✔ Take pride in maintaining clean, professional equipment and job sites ✔ Work independently without constant supervision ✔ Think ahead and solve problems in the field ✔ Take pride in producing quality work Taking care of equipment is not optional. We expect employees to perform daily inspections, grease equipment, report issues promptly, keep cabs clean, monitor fluid levels, fuel equipment properly, and take pride in maintaining the equipment they operate. Daily responsibilities may also include assisting with fueling, greasing, grade checking, communication with crew members, and helping wherever needed to keep production moving forward. We perform everything from simple driveways and lot clearings to gravel road maintenance, new road construction, building pads, complete house lot development, horse arenas, drainage projects, culvert and pipe crossing installations, larger scale land clearing, site preparation, residential grading, and large-scale pond construction projects. Our company is based out of Henderson, NC, but our projects take us throughout Eastern North Carolina and Central North Carolina. Applicants should be willing to travel as projects require. Our current project is a large pond construction project located in Tarboro, NC involving dam construction, grading, drainage, and large-scale earthmoving operations. Based on current progress and weather conditions, this project is expected to keep us busy through the beginning to middle of August. This project has been underway since mid-February and still has a substantial amount of work remaining. This is a full-scale earthmoving project, not a small residential job. That is only one of several projects currently in progress or being planned. We are currently planning another large pond and site development project in Elizabeth City, NC that includes approximately 25 acres of site development, including a driveway, house pad, detached garage pad, secondary residence pad, berm construction, and a large pond with a peninsula feature. We are also discussing an additional pond and duck impoundment project with a prospective client in the Oxford and Roxboro area. In addition to these larger projects, we continue to receive opportunities involving driveways, roads, building pads, horse arenas, drainage projects, land clearing, site preparation, residential grading, complete property development projects, excavation work, and other earthmoving projects throughout Eastern and Central North Carolina. The work is here. The opportunities are here. The leads are coming in. What we're missing are the right people. We have more work and opportunities coming in than our current crew can realistically keep up with. In several cases, we are turning down work, delaying projects, or passing on opportunities because we do not have enough experienced operators and leaders to maintain the level of quality we expect. We are looking for people who can help us continue growing the right way. If you're tired of being just another number at a large company and are looking for an opportunity where your work ethic, abilities, production, ideas, and leadership actually matter, we'd like to talk to you. We are a tight-knit crew that works hard, communicates constantly, and takes pride in building projects that stand the test of time. Everyone works. Everyone helps. Everyone carries their weight. This is a team-oriented environment built on communication, accountability, work ethic, and pride in the finished product. The owner is actively involved in the field and the day-to-day operation of the company. This is not a company where management is removed from the work being performed. Every project reflects the company's name, reputation, and commitment to quality. We utilize Rapid Radios on our projects so everyone stays in communication and works together as a team. Competitive pay based on experience, ability, production, and the value you bring to the company.
Pay range:
$24-$38 per hour based on experience, ability, production, and overall value to the team. Transportation to and from the job may be available depending on location. Company vehicle may be available for the right candidate. Opportunities for advancement. Leadership opportunities for the right people. Long-term growth opportunities. We are looking for people who want a long-term growth opportunity, not just another job. We are building a company for the future and looking for people who want to be part of that growth from the beginning. The right people will have the opportunity to grow with the company, take on additional responsibility, move into leadership roles, and help shape the future direction of our excavation and pond construction operations. If you're motivated, dependable, take pride in your work, and want to be part of building something bigger than yourself, give us a call or send us a text. John Glover (JG): 252-432-9215 Zack:
