Job Description

Night Position :
7pm-7am 5days on - 2days off
Position Summary:
The Transload Operator is a key member of the railyard team, responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate transfer of various commodities between railcars, trucks, and storage facilities. This role requires a strong work ethic, technical skill, adaptability, a commitment to safety, effective communication, and a willingness to contribute to all aspects of railyard operation to achieve overall success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate equipment to transload various commodities according to customer and company procedures. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Transferring sand into silos, utilizing proprietary inventory and control software to manage levels and divert sand correctly.
  • Transloading NGL (Natural Gas Liquids) between holding tanks, trucks, and tanker railcars.
  • Transferring diesel fuel from tanker railcars to trucks, including safely climbing railcars with necessary tools (e.g., pipe wrench) to operate valves.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, pallet jacks, and other machinery as needed to meet operational goals, including potential tasks like loading/unloading palletized materials.
  • Understand and identify key railcar components like couplers, draft gear, air brake systems (including brake pipes, glad hands, angle cocks), and handbrakes.
  • Strictly adhere to all railyard safety procedures, including understanding and respecting Blue Flag protection and Red Zone protocols.
  • Properly operate track switches and understand derail placement and fouling points.
  • Communicate effectively using radios, maintaining clear communication with locomotive operator, supervisors, and other team members.
  • Accurately estimate distances for railcar movement.
  • Read and write in English to accurately complete required paperwork documenting commodity transfers and other operational tasks.
  • Demonstrate analytical and execution skills: quickly comprehend task requirements, identify knowledge/skill gaps, and resourcefully find solutions to achieve successful outcomes with limited guidance.
  • Flexibly move between different projects and customer requirements as operational needs dictate.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including performing general housekeeping tasks like sweeping, cleaning spills, and organizing materials as needed.
General Duties & Expectations:
  • Maintain a positive, self-motivated, and team-oriented attitude, focusing on achieving operational goals efficiently and safely.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and willingly perform various tasks as directed by the Transload Supervisor, General Manager, or other administration, understanding that operational needs may require performing duties outside of primary transloading responsibilities.
This includes contributing to general site maintenance, cleaning, organization, or assisting with new customer requirements as they arise.
  • Actively participate in safety briefings and continuous learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Comfortable working at heights and physically capable of climbing railcars and operating equipment.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn proprietary software for inventory and operational control.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a proactive, contributing member of a team.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license.
