Job Description

WP Davis Excavation LLC is hiring a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator with strong excavator experience to support excavation, utility, site work, and heavy civil construction projects. We are based in Hampton, New Hampshire and perform commercial, municipal, DOT, and heavy civil construction work throughout New Hampshire and Maine. This position is a good fit for an experienced operator who can run multiple types of equipment, has strong excavator experience, and can work safely and productively around crews, utilities, trenches, trucks, and active construction operations.

Role:
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will primarily operate excavators, along with other heavy equipment as qualified, on active construction sites. Work may include excavation, trenching, grading, utility work, drainage, site preparation, material handling, roadwork, concrete support, and general heavy civil construction. This role requires an operator who can work efficiently, communicate clearly with supervisors and ground crews, understand grades and layout, maintain awareness of hazards, and assist with field work or site cleanup when needed.
Responsibilities:
Operate excavators as the primary machine, along with loaders, skid steers, dozers, rollers, and other equipment as qualified Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, material handling, site preparation, drainage, and utility-related work Work around existing utilities, trenches, trucks, equipment, laborers, operators, subcontractors, and inspectors Read and follow plans, grade stakes, layout information, and verbal direction from supervisors Work closely with foremen, superintendents, operators, laborers, and ground crews to complete work safely and accurately Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns Perform basic equipment maintenance such as greasing, fueling, cleaning, and checking fluids Maintain awareness of underground utilities, overhead hazards, slopes, grades, equipment limits, and surrounding workers Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and job-site procedures Assist with labor support, site cleanup, loading, unloading, and other field tasks when needed Keep equipment, work areas, and job sites clean, safe, and organized
Requirements:
3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience required Excavator operating experience required Experience on excavation, site work, utility, drainage, roadwork, or heavy civil construction projects Ability to safely operate around ground crews, trenches, trucks, utilities, and active construction operations Ability to read and follow plans, grade stakes, layout information, and verbal instructions Strong understanding of job-site safety, equipment limits, and hazard awareness Valid driver's license Reliable transportation Ability to reliably commute to job sites throughout New Hampshire and Maine OSHA 10 required Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions Willingness to assist with site work, labor support, and cleanup when needed
Preferred Experience:
5+ years of heavy equipment operating experience Strong excavator experience, including trenching, grading, utility work, drainage, and working around existing utilities Experience operating loaders, skid steers, dozers, rollers, or other heavy equipment Experience with GPS, laser-guided equipment, grade control, or layout Experience with public-sector, municipal, DOT, bridge, dam, concrete, utility, or heavy civil projects Hoisting license, CDL, OSHA 30, or CPR/First Aid certification is a plus Experience with equipment inspections, timekeeping, field reporting, or construction software
Pay:
$28.00 - $38.00 per hour
