Position Overview The Loader Operator moves, loads and handles materials within the asphalt plant area with the use of heavy equipment to lift, haul, push, roll, load and move aggregate and aggregate related materials. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Operate equipment safely and efficiently within MSHA Standards. Responsible for thorough Pre and Post shift inspections. Operator heavy equipment to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials in a safe manner. Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment. Assist Plant Manager in coordinating materials handling and equipment usage. May assist as Laborer at times during plant moves and light maintenance. May perform physical tasks involved with Mining and Construction practices. Knowledge of the use and capabilities of heavy equipment and machinery used in maintenance and construction tasks. Knowledge of both traffic and safety rules. Knowledge of the practices and techniques applied to the safe operation of heavy equipment. Ability to keep records and make oral or written reports. Ability to make simple arithmetic computations. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and squat frequently. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to work long hours outdoors, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Work Requirements Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred. Knowledge/Skill Requirements Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
